Tom Richardson - Our indomitable leader

My name is Tom Richardson and I've been elected as the leader of the Karrimor Everest 2005 Expedition. We are going for the North Col/North Ridge Route from the Tibet side of the Mountain. There are 8 climbers,4 climbing sherpa friends,a chef,a doctor and 3 kitchen assistants in the team.
At the time of writing we are in the closing stages of preparation and suddenly all the planning and organising is becoming a reality.
I've been climbing and trekking in the Greater Ranges ,particularly the Himalaya since 1979 and have been lucky enough to make 6 visits to 8000m peaks although I have not always reached the summit, prefering to return safely when the conditions aren't right.
We are basically a group of friends going on a climbing trip together,it just happens to be that our objective is the highest on earth!
More soon
Next stop Kathmandu!

The dull stuff: I'm 32 years old, I live in Keswick and I like
scrabble. I started climbing relatively late when I first moved to the
lakes at the age of 21. I'd been soloing gritstone and trees in the
Yorkshire Dales for a while longer but proper roped up stuff with
things dangling from harness' started when I was a fledgling
instructor at the Calvert Trust in Keswick.
The golden years. I'm now entering the silver years, at least the
beard would suggest so. I'm still working as an instructor with as
varied a client group as one can get. Young offenders from Liverpool
in Dumfrieshire one month, plastic surgeons from Toronto in Bhutan the
next. I'm also an artist/illustrator and one day this will be what I
do.
I'll be documenting the trip with sketches and random writings and
hope to put an installation piece together on the grooviness of the
Mother Goddess of Earth. She's been getting a bad rap lately. I once
said I'd never want to try to summit Everest but I never figured on
such a close happy bunch of bearded friends coming together at the
same time to give it a go. In the end there wasn’t any doubt for me. I
love mountians, I can hear them breath, so to spend time on the
highest one on the planet is a privilege.
Times not
to be turned down.
I hope you enjoy our Blogg.
It'd be smashing to hear from you.
Regards Dan.
